Cinnie Noble realized many years ago in her work as a lawyer and mediator in Toronto, Canada that way too many people struggle with their interpersonal conflicts. Realizing just how much conflict matters, she set out to help people see conflict as an opportunity to engage more effectively with others and to honour each other's differences. After researching a coach-approach to doing so, Cinnie combined conflict management and coaching principles to develop the CINERGY model of conflict coching. She and the many people she has trained in various parts of the world - coach leaders, coaches and other professionals and practitioners to improve the way they engage in conflict - to more effectively resolve disputes and prevent unnecessary ones from escalating.
Since 2004, Cinnie has been the part-time conflict coaching consultant with Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which is part of the U.S. Homeland Security. She helped design TSA's Conflict Management Coaching Program and train hundreds of internal coaches to assist other staff members. Cinnie has also provided similar consultation for other organizations with and without Integrated Conflict Management Systems to build conflict competent organizations through the use of conflict coaching, among other modalities.
A strong conflict management foundation not only enables us to engage more effectively in conflict. It also gives coaches and others who work with people in conflict a solid base from which to provide assistance. In the end, the power of even just one person gaining a new perspective and improved skill when it comes to managing conflict, makes a difference to that person and those with whom she or he connects. This is peacebuilding-one person at a time.
